In Memoriam : Richard Burns

Richard's main involvement with LURG was in 1978, when he appeared in Spar Wars. He was stage manager for our 2nd Edinburgh show, Lancashire Hot Pot and the subsequent campus show Fanfare For The Common Cold. He also contributed to the music in Spars Wars and Hot Pot. The caricatures in the Spar Wars programme were also his work.

Richard was a highly talented writer of both serious and comic material. He also had considerable skills as an artist and his comic drawings of the Spar Wars cast for the show programme were a brilliant contribution. In my year as Scan editor, Richard helped me from time to time with page layout and drawings. I remember one or two discussions with him about student politics. He could be very sociable and enjoy a good laugh, but he will probably be remembered by most group members as a quiet individual. His early death indicates he was a deeper and more intense thinker than any of us realised.
